James "Allen" Hammontree
Litigating Attorney
overview
I am a results oriented injury attorney with over 30 years of experience litigating injury cases at the state and federal levels. I am experienced in preparing auto and truck crash cases, medical malpractice and personal injury claims for trial or other resolution through effective discovery and case management. I am active in Georgia and Tennessee courts. I always try to keep my client’s needs as my number one focus.
Background
Reason for Becoming an Attorney: I have been interested in government and the legal system for as long as I can remember. I have always sided with the underdog and wanted to help people who had the odds stacked against them. As I progressed through high school and college I just knew in my heart there was no profession for me other than as a lawyer.
Personal Story
When I was in the third grade there was a boy who constantly bullied me and threatened me at school and on the bus ride home. It made me feel afraid and it made me feel weak and helpless. I talked to my dad about it and he told me that sometimes the only way you can deal with a bully is to stand up to them and face their threats head on. One day in the bus ride line, he came up to me again with the threats and knocked off my hat. This time I stood up, faced him and gave it right back. I did not back down and he never bothered me again.
So many of the clients I am privileged to represent feel that way about an insurance company or a big corporation that is trying to push them around and fight them at a time they are dealing with pain, loss and financial ruin. I love to be that person to stand up for them and protect them.

Professional Experience
I have practiced injury law since 1993. My focus has been on representing people who have been injured due to the negligence of someone else. I have extensive experience in handling car and truck accidents, medical malpractice claims, and claims for people hurt at one someone’s property or by a defective product. I have never represented insurance companies or big corporations.
Winning Rate
In my career, I have helped thousands of clients recover millions of dollars in compensation. I have helped children recover for the loss of a parent, parents for the tragic loss of children and spouses for the loss of their life partner. I have also helped injured people get the compensation they need to deal with medical bills, lost income and the pain, fear and sadness that comes from a serious injury.
Professional Journey
Career Path: I began practicing injury law in my hometown of Dalton, Georgia right after I graduated law school. Along with 3 other partners, we started a new injury firm in 1996. I opened my own solo practice in 2022 before the amazing opportunity at Buckhead Law opened.
Prior Experience: I also served as the Judge for the Municipal Courts for the Cities of Cohutta and Varnell, Georgia. Earlier in my career I served 3 terms in the Georgia House of Representatives representing the people of the 4Th House District. While in the Legislature, I served on the House Judiciary Committee which handles most substantive and procedural issues related to personal injury law.

Values & Legal Approach
I know when I meet a client, they are dealing with a terrible event that has happened to them. Their injury may be the first thing they think of in the morning and the last thing at night. They are hurt, scared, unsure and probably angry. They do not know the process and it seems overwhelming. I view my most important job as letting them know, It is going to be OK. We have your back on this.
The way we do that is to listen to our client; see what they need. We will answer your questions and make sure you understand what is happening and why.
We approach every case as if it is going to trial and get it ready to do so as fast and effectively as we can. At the same time, we work toward and hope it can be resolved for the client in the best way without having them go through the stress of a trial.
